Golf tournament: The Seventh Annual Child Abuse Prevention Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Joyner Gray Yale Ruritan Club and Southampton Social Services, will be at Cypress Cove Country Club, 20333 Country Club Road, Franklin. This is a postponement from the original date of April 7, which was announced on Thursday morning. The cost is $75 per person ($300 for foursomes; $50 per high school student that plays,) which includes carts, green fees, range balls, prizes and a barbecue dinner by Jerry’s Roadside Grill & Catering. Hole sponsorships are $100 each. Registration and purchase of mulligans begin at noon and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Proceeds go back to the county community via programs that support the prevention of child abuse. Down Home Day: This year’s event at the Southampton Heritage Village/Agriculture & Forestry Museum in Courtland has been expanded an hour to give people more time to see the demonstrations and exhibits, as well as enjoying food and fellowship. Jimmy Ricks and his Shiloh Grass bluegrass band will perform. The gristmill will be running, providing fresh cornmeal. Bill Vick will have a display of hand shellers for corn. Clothing Giveaway: Weather permitting, the Franklin Cooperative Ministry will have a clothing giveaway from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 511 N. Main St., Franklin. Please bring photo ID. Say ‘Yes’ to the Dress: This is a Relay For Life fundraiser by Team WES Soaring for the Cure. The event starts at 9 a.m. in Westside Elementary School, 800 W. Main St., Smithfield. Over 100 gowns and dresses appropriate for proms, weddings, social events will be available and each costs $20. Accessories and shoes also available. Cash or checks accepted.

Wakefield Ruritan Club Bash/BBQ and Shad Homecoming: Join us from 3 to 8 p.m. for fun, food and entertainment. This year’s event will host various children’s activities, display with the history of the Wakefield Ruritans and Shad Planking, cornhole tournament, a live band, BBQ and Shad, raffle with with four prizes and a beer truck.

VT coaches dinner with Bud Foster: The Western Tidewater Hokie Club will be sponsoring its 20th Orange and Maroon Coaches Tour in the Smithfield Center. Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster and Christian Webster, the new assistant basketball coach, will be the guests. The Franklin area Parkinson’s Support Group: The group will meet in the Village at Wood’s Edge in the Great Room at 6:30 p.m. for a session led by Village staff on nutrition and medicine. Spring Craft Fair: The Woman’s Club of Windsor is sponsoring its sixth annual event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Windsor Community House, 14 Community Drive. Vendors will include Tupperware, cemetery flower arrangements, Perfectly Post, crochet hems, handmade jewelry, Origami Owl, Scentsy, Lilla Rose, bottle art, home décor, Lula Roe, glass art, embroidery, Pampered Chef, Paparazzi Jewelry. For lunch, homemade chicken sale and pimento cheese will be sold as sandwiches and in bulk. A bake sale and raffles will also be featured. Admission is free.

Western Tidewater Master Gardeners Second Annual Plant Sale: This will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carrollton Library, 14362 New Towne Haven Lane. Flower and art show: The Historic Wakefield Foundation presents its 31st annual Flower and Art Show on through Friday, May 18. This year’s show will feature the work of more than 70 artist,s each artwork accompanied by a floral arrangement designed to produce a unified, harmonious display. The Gala Opening Reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission will be $10 per person. The reception will feature heavy hors-d’oeuvres and live musical entertainment by pianist Nan Seeley. The exhibit will be open on Sunday, May 6.
