Saturday, Dec. 15

Mixed media collage: Instructor Juliette Marshall will teach creative collage techniques and provide all art materials and tools used, including an 8” x 10” canvas from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Arts Center @ 319 in downtown Smithfield. This class is intended for adult artists, beginner through intermediate. The fee is $55 for Isle of Wight Arts League members and $65 for non-members, plus a $10 materials fee. New hours at St. Luke’s: New days of operation for Historic St. Luke’s Church and Museum are Tuesdays through Saturdays from Feb. 1-Dec. 31. Hours remain at 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Access to all of the cemeteries and grounds will remain between sunrise and sunset daily. If you have a private group of 10 people of more and wish to schedule a guided tour on Sunday or Monday, call to make an advance reservation. Monday, Dec. 17

Smithfield Farmers Market: The Holiday Market will be the last for the season, held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bank of Southside Virginia parking lot, 115 Main St., downtown Smithfield. The Farmer’s Market offers a range of vendors selling homegrown, homemade or handcrafted items, including locally grown food and homemade baked and specialty goods. Kids Gift Crafting Camp: Children will create a different gift each day with local artist Juliette MarShall at The Arts Center @ 319 in downtown Smithfield. The class runs through Friday, Dec. 21 with sessions from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $185 plus a $75 materials fee for the entire week, or $37 plus a $15 materials fee for each day. AARP meeting: The Windsor Chapter 5309 will meet at 10 a.m. in the Windsor Ruritan Clubhouse. The guest will be a representative from Consulate Health Care of Windsor. Please bring unwrapped Angel Tree gifts for Consulate Health Care of Windsor and invite your friends.

Prospective and Small Business Consultations: The Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce is accepting reservations for prospective and small business owners to meet with Jim Carroll, a consultant from the Small Business Center of Hampton Roads. Friday, Dec. 21

Open Mic Night: The public is invited to share their music, poetry, humor, stories, etc. with friends at this monthly “Open Mic Night” at Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S. Church St., downtown Smithfield, featuring a “coffee house” atmosphere with a coffee bar and snacks counter. This is held the third Friday of each month at 7 p.m. All donations and coffee bar proceeds go to Christ Episcopal Church outreach programs. Saturday, Dec. 22

Old-Fashioned Country Breakfast: This will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. by the Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545, 223 Washington St., across from the library and YMCA. The menu features scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, corn bread, fried salt spot and mixed fruit. Coffee and juice are included with a $7 donation. Omelet to order is an additional $2. Children age 6-12 are $4 and children under 6 eat free. All proceeds go to support the many activities and programs of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 in Smithfield.

 

Friday, Dec. 28

Wire-wrapped bracelet workshop: Use wire and optional beads to create your own wire bracelet for New Years Eve with resident artist Juliette MarShall at The Arts Center @ 319, downtown Smithfield. The fee is $55 for Isle of Wight Arts League members and $65 for non-members, plus a $10 materials fee. No experience necessary. A group rate of $50 per person for groups of 10 or more is available.
