Amateur radio course: The Western Tidewater Radio Association is sponsoring a “Get Your Amateur Radio License” course at 8 a.m. The class will be in the conference room of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Station, 80 E. Windsor Blvd. The course and the material are free, courtesy of the Fred Weaver Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Fall Fair: The Nansemond River Pilot Club in Suffolk is hosting its 13th Annual Fall Fair in Nansemond River High School, 3301 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Walking Tour of Nike Park: At 2 p.m., visit one of the Cold War’s few surviving Army Air-Defense Posts. Local historian Albert Burckard hosts a short presentation and a walking tour of this site which contains the original barracks, mess hall, administration and recreation building, officer/non-commissioned officer family housing, fueling area and underground missile magazines. Monday, Oct. 22

Board meeting: The Paul D. Camp Community College Local College Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. in its center on the second floor of the Blackwater Regional Library at 253 James St., Smithfield.

Jack & Jill of America: To determine if there’s interest in starting a chapter in Western Tidewater, a meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Morgan Memorial Library, Suffolk. RSVP at westerntidewatergroup@gmail.com.

 

Friday Oct. 26

Bethlehem Ruritan Jam: From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Luke Willette and The Show Me Band will perform in the Bethlehem Ruritan Club House, 140 Manning Road, Suffolk. There is no admission charge, but donations go to the tip jar for the band, so please give generously. Soft drinks, BBQ, hot dogs, snacks, and desserts will be available for purchase. Sundays at Four: The concert series presents “The John Bullard Quartet — banjo, violin, cello and piano” in Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S. Church St., downtown Smithfield. John Bullard has gained international attention for his work in developing and transcribing classical repertoire for the five string banjo. He is joined by pianist Markus Compton, violinist Francoise Moquin and cellist Schuyler Slack. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students. Saturday, Nov. 3

Windsor Town Center grand opening: The Town of Windsor will celebrate the grand opening of its Windsor Town Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. The first event to be held in the center, the Woman’s Club Craft Fair, will follow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature chicken salad and pimento cheese for sale for lunch. The Town Center is located at 23361 Courthouse Highway, Windsor.

Christmas Craft Fair: The Woman’s Club of Windsor will host this annual event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new Windsor Town Center, 23361 Courthouse Highway. A bake sale, raffle, homemade chicken salad and pimento cheese will be offered. Numerous vendors such as LuLa Roe, Pampered Chef, Scentsy and Tupperware will be present. This will the first event in the facility, which will also be dedicated that day.

Artisan Market in Capron: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Holiday Shopping with artisans and crafters featuring quilts, warm handwoven wearable art, local authors and books, oil and watercolor paintings, herbal soaps, stained glass creations, handcrafted and repurposed furniture, forged metal art, silver jewelry, hand crafted pens, knitted and crocheted home goods, folk art, pottery, carved and turned wood, hand- crafted knives, handmade brooms, Native American crafts, a beading craft demonstration, Native American tacos and food creations and more.
