Cold wax painting workshop: Artist Nancy Stutts provides instruction in this versatile medium for representational or abstract painting styles at The Arts Center @319 in downtown Smithfield. Class fee is $50 for Isle of Wight Arts League members and $670 for non-members, plus a materials fee of $50 for wax, scrapers, panels and paper. Participants are to bring oil paints and an apron, but some paints will be provided. There will be a short break for lunch. You must register and pay by Saturday, July 21. Beginning Jewelry, Pearl Knotting: Learn the basic hand-knotting technique to string or restring pearls from artist Diane Milner. The class includes the completion of a seven- to eight-inch knotted bracelet using bead tips and a gold-filled safety clasp. All tools are provided and all supplies are included in the workshop fee of $30 for Isle of Wight Arts League members and $40 for non-members. JuliARTte Summer Camp: All materials are included for daily art projects, including painting, fiber art and jewelry with instruction by resident artist Juliette MarShall. The class will be held each day through Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. The class fee is $25 per day or $100 for the entire week for Isle of Wight Arts League members or $35 per day or $120 per week for non members, plus a materials fee of $10 per day or $50 per week. Materials fees are due by the first day of class. St. Luke’s Flower Removal: St. Luke’s Memorial Park Cemetery removes all flowers and decorations twice per year for grounds maintenance. If you wish to remove your flowers or decorations, you should do so before July 31. Please do not replace until after Aug. 2. St. Luke’s is not responsible for any arrangements present on Aug. 1. First Saturdays Artisan Market: Local artisans with unique specialties in stained glass creations, forged metal art, handmade brooms, handcrafted and repurposed furniture, silver jewelry, wearable art, herbal soaps, local writers and books, oil paintings, handcrafted pens, knit and crochet, quilts, folk art, pottery, carved and turned wood, handcrafted knives, Native American crafts, locally grown produce, craft demonstrations and more. The Nottoway Tribe of Virginia History Interpretive Exhibit is also available for view. Carrollton Civic League meeting: The Carrollton Civic League will meet 7 p.m., in the community room of Sentara St. Luke’s Medical Center at 20209 Sentara Way. The topic of discussion is “Town of Carrollton?” Should Isle of Wight County’s Newport Election District and adjacent areas in both the Windsor and Smithfield districts be incorporated as a town under the Code of Virginia? Heritage Day: Heritage Day will be at Southampton Heritage Village/Agriculture and Forestry Museum on Heritage Lane, Courtland, from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The cost for adults is $5, school-age children $2, pre-schoolers are free. There will be running heritage equipment: saw mill, grist mill, printing press, large model train displays, plus hands-on trains for kids, a scavenger hunt, craft vendors, old cars, tractors, engines and music.
