The Isle of Wight County Fair received five first-place awards, six second-place awards and one third-place award at the 2019 Virginia Association of Fairs Conference, held Jan. 3-5 at The Homestead in Hot Springs. The awards were for the middle-sized fair category, with attendances of 7,000 to 29,999 people. The fair also won five awards for all-sized fairs.

According to Jenilee Hallman, fair coordinator, the awards were all for the marketing of the fair. Members of the Isle of Wight County Fair Committee had previously attended the 2018 International Association of Fairs and Exhibitions Convention in San Antonio, Texas, in November, returning with one second-place award for the fair’s television ad and one third place award for its web ad and radio ad. The IAFE represents more than 1,100 fairs around the world, and more than 900 members from allied fields.

The 2018 fair itself, which would have been the county’s 25th, ended up being cancelled due to the forecasted path of Hurricane Florence. However, Isle of Wight County plans to “Celebrate 25 years … Again!” this fall, with its 2019 fair scheduled for Sept. 12 through 15.
