A medical emergency may have led to a reported crash involving a tractor and a residence on Virginia Avenue in Windsor on Wednesday morning, April 2.

A Windsor Police Department news release stated that on April 2 at about 11:04 a.m., the Isle of Wight Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from the 20 block of Virginia Avenue.

“Callers advised that a large tractor had struck a residence, and a male subject was down on the ground,” police stated in the release. “Upon arrival WPD officers found a citizen performing CPR on the downed subject.”

WPD officers along with members of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad and Isle of Wight County Department of Fire and Rescue took over CPR and continued to provide care, the release stated. Police said the 63-year-old male subject was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital in critical condition.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the subject may have suffered a medical emergency while operating the machinery,” police stated.

Isle of Wight County building inspectors were contacted to inspect the structural integrity of the residence, the release noted, adding that the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry VOSH Compliance Division was contacted and responded to the scene. VOSH references the VDLI’s Virginia Occupational Safety & Health Program.

The release concluded by stating that the investigation of the incident will be handled by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.
