A preliminary snow map from the National Weather Service’s Wakefield office shows that Western Tidewater has received anywhere from three to more than 10 inches of snow during the recent winter storm.

Mike Montefusco, a meteorologist with NWS Wakefield, said Thursday morning, Feb. 20, that snowfall totals across southside Hampton Roads were averaging between seven and 10 inches.

“Heaviest totals are in the Chesapeake area over to Virginia Beach,” he said.

He noted that based upon reports NWS Wakefield had received thus far, it had made a preliminary snow map offering snowfall analysis from the time period of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

This map, pictured above, shows Suffolk largely in the six- to eight-inch category of snowfall, with some parts reaching the eight- to 12-inch category.

Isle of Wight County appears to include anywhere from three to eight inches of snowfall.

Franklin includes the six- to eight-inch category, and Southampton County appears to span from four-and-a-half to seven inches of snowfall.

“We actually will issue an updated map later on today,” Montefusco said.
