Tara W. Outland was approved as the principal of Carrsville Elementary School during the Isle of Wight County School Board’s June 8 meeting, and she began serving in this new role Saturday, July 1.

An Isle of Wight County Schools news release noted that Outland is a graduate of Tidewater Community College, Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia. 

She served in Southampton County for three years as a classroom teacher, and in Suffolk Public Schools, she was an elementary school classroom teacher, district science lead teacher, elementary assistant principal and elementary principal for a total of 28 years. 

At the time of her approval by the Isle of Wight School Board, she was serving as the principal of Creekside Elementary School in Suffolk and was recently named 2023 Elementary Principal of the Year for Suffolk Public Schools.

She noted being proud of her work in building relationships, ensuring academic success and fostering a positive school climate through family engagement. 

Outland is a resident of Carrsville, where she enjoys spending time with her husband and their adult children and grandchildren. 

She said she looks forward to building on the connections that make Carrsville Elementary School an integral part of the Carrsville community.
