Windsor High School’s student-athletes have been providing strong representation for the school and town with their performances at the regional level.

TRACK AND FIELD

Juniors Tim Butler and Zimare Pearson led the way for the Dukes by winning titles during the Virginia High School League Region 2A Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Monday, May 22, at Bailey Field in York County.

Butler won the regional championship in both the boys shot put and discus events. 

Pearson won the boys long jump. He also placed fourth in the boys triple jump and sixth in the boys high jump.

Lady Dukes junior Keaera Kea-Towns placed third in the girls 300-meter hurdles.

Junior Chevelle Joyner placed fifth in the girls 400-meter dash, fifth in the girls long jump and sixth in the girls high jump.

Senior Daria Wooten placed sixth in both the girls shot put and discus.

Butler, Joyner, Kea-Towns, Pearson, senior DonTavious Hayslett and junior Demond Smith have all qualified to compete in the VHSL Class 2 State Championships that are set for Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3, at the James Madison University Track & Field Complex in Harrisonburg.

SOFTBALL

The Windsor varsity softball team won the Tri-Rivers District Tournament after routing visiting Surry County High School 10-0 in the semifinals on May 15 and then edging out visiting Southampton High School 7-6 in the final on May 17.

Having earned the No. 5 seed in the Region 2A Tournament, the Lady Dukes opened up their play at that level Tuesday, May 23, when they shut out No. 12 Bruton High School 4-0.

Windsor (18-4) was set to play No. 5 Arcadia High School in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon, May 25.

BASEBALL

The Windsor varsity baseball team finished as the runner-up in the district tournament. After defeating visiting Surry County 1-0 in the semifinals May 15, the Dukes gave host Southampton High School — dominant all season — a significant challenge in the final on May 17, falling only narrowly, 9-7.

Windsor earned the No. 7 seed in the Region 2A tourney and beat No. 10 Nandua High School 3-1 in the first round on Tuesday.

The Dukes (12-10-1) were set to play No. 2 King William High School in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.

GIRLS SOCCER

The Windsor varsity girls soccer team earned the No. 5 seed in the Region 2A Tournament, and though the squad fell 3-1 in the first round on Tuesday, it put up a competitive showing against No. 4 Bruton.
