Isle of Wight County Schools will purchase 143 interactive whiteboards, also known as smartboards, at a cost of just over $422,800.

The boards, manufactured by Promethean, are designed to integrate with computers and digital platforms like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams.

The School Board voted unanimously on Feb. 9 to approve a $422,828.95 bid by Illinois-based CDW-G LLC for the project. The cost will be largely covered by federal funds, with the remaining $14,273.60 coming out of the division’s adult education budget.

Ninety-six of the new boards will go to the new two-story Hardy Elementary, which is under construction and set to open at the start of the next school year. Another 43 will go to Smithfield and Windsor high schools, Georgie D. Tyler Middle School and Smithfield Middle School. The remaining four will be used for adult education.
