The town of Windsor took action in connection with some examples of vandalism that a member of the public recently shared with town officials.

Phillip Barnes, of Windsor, shared some photos via email July 8 of the table inside the town gazebo at Wesley F. Garris Event Park and the bridge by Georgie Tyler Middle School, each of which had obscene content and foul language drawn on them.

In his email, Barnes promoted events geared toward youth to help steer them away from idleness and the trouble that frequently accompanies it.

“This is why I advocated for the youth of Windsor,” he wrote, referencing times he has spoken at Windsor Town Council meetings. “The town should concentrate more on activities for the youth rather than lawn beautification.”

Windsor Town Manager William Saunders confirmed Thursday, July 21, that the town had taken measures to clean up or eliminate the vandalism depicted in the photos, though he noted that there is not sufficient information to conduct further investigation into the incidents.

“(The Windsor Police Department) has increased patrols and presence in the area and is looking into other alternative measures,” he said.

Sharing his thoughts regarding the vandalism, Saunders said, “It is unfortunate that amenities provided for the public’s enjoyment are defiled in this manner.”
