Tonight’s Western Tidewater Relay for Life has been canceled on count of forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service, the hazardous weather is expected between 3 and 11 p.m., and could produce large hail, damaging winds. The Relay event was to begin at 6 p.m. at Smithfield’s Joseph W. Luter Jr. Sports Complex.

The 9 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony will be rescheduled for a to-be-determined date.
