The Civic Engagement and Outreach Committee of the Woman’s Club of Windsor, Inc. made a presentation at the Feb. 8, meeting of the Windsor Town Council. The committee announced that the Town of Windsor has been chosen as the focus for club projects for the 2021-2022 club year.

Council members were presented with a newly printed book on the history of the town and surrounding community.

The committee gathered information from the town and retyped the available history and had it printed into a booklet, which is available at the town office to any Windsor resident and there is no charge for the book. The book also includes information regarding the Centennial Celebration of the town in 2002, with all of the information and lists of participants in all of the activities of the weekend celebration. The committee is striving to educate residents on the history of Windsor and what a wonderful place it is to live.

In August 2021, 14 members cleaned the large monument located in Centennial Park directly behind the Town office. Next the committee raised enough money to have a mural on the side of one of the oldest buildings in the Town of Windsor repainted. This was completed in November 2021.

The building dates back to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The age of the mural was around the 1930s or 1940s. Three sections of the wall were re-painted and the fourth was just for fun and included a picture of a cute frog, since the Economic Development Authority of the town will be bringing frogs to town very soon, to tie in with the town being called Frog Level in the late 1800s due to the heavy wet soil and the large number of frogs in the area. The committee also included the word LOVE and a large heart, to show its love of the town, the area and local businesses and residents.

The next project has just begun. Letters have been mailed to residents in the Town of Windsor offering to paint the front door of their home. All of these projects are at no cost to the Town of Windsor or to the residents. The door project is to help brighten the town, as residents will choose from six colors selected by the committee.

The Arts and Culture committee will hold an art contest for students in the five area schools in March. This year there is a new category and students will be asked to consider drawing or painting a picture of one of the older homes or businesses in town.

In addition to the town related projects the committee will be holding a CPR class in March, as well as sending needed items to the acute care/psychiatry department of the Veterans Hospital in Hampton. The committee recently donated 100 pairs of socks to the Genieve Shelter in Suffolk and also supported Cub Scout pack 41, Boy Scout Troop 41, Girl Scout Troop 5102, the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and the Horton Wreath Society.
