Isle of Wight County’s School Board named Dawn Carroll as Georgie D. Tyler Middle School’s new principal at its Nov. 10 meeting. Carroll had been serving as interim principal since Oct. 15 when her predecessor, Kristy Buggs, became principal of Smithfield Middle School.

Carroll has been with Isle of Wight County Schools since 1996, when she started as an English and reading intervention teacher at the former Windsor Middle School and Windsor High School. Prior to being named interim principal at GTMS, she’d served as an instructional coach at Carrsville Elementary, assistant principal at Carrollton Elementary and assistant principal at Windsor High.

Carroll has a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master of science degree in education, as well as an education specialist degree, all from Old Dominion University.
