An introduction

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to everyone in Windsor. My name is Titus Mohler, and I am a new staff reporter with Windsor Weekly.

I have been a newspaper reporter for just more than nine years now and have worked for Boone Newspapers Inc. for that entire span. I have lived most of my life in Suffolk and received my start in news writing by doing freelance articles for the Suffolk News-Herald near the beginning of 2012. That August, I was hired on as the paper’s part-time sports reporter and held that position for just more than three-and-a-half years.

In the spring of 2016, I was offered a full-time position in Farmville to become the sports editor for Farmville Newsmedia LLC, which includes The Farmville Herald, The Kenbridge-Victoria Dispatch and The Charlotte Gazette.

While the lion’s share of that job was sports-related, general news assignments, including government reporting, were also a consistent part of its responsibilities.

Then, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic happened, and the job changed overnight into a general news reporter position because there were no sports to report on.

Though there is very little regarding 2020 to feel good about, I think it did help prepare me for a shift that has taken place, in general, with regard to community journalism positions, as they now often involve coverage of a little bit of everything.

To be able to return to the Tidewater area is a pleasure for me. I’m happy to continue working for Publisher Betty Ramsey, who oversees Farmville Newsmedia as well, and to once again work for Tracy Agnew, who I knew previously as a news editor and who is now regional editor.

It is a privilege to be able to tell the story of you and your community, and I hope to do a good job for you all.
