SMITHFIELD

Smithfield High School senior Devon Fitzgerald competed locally in the American Legion 2020 Oratorical Contest and was selected to advance to the District competition which she also won. She will next progress to the Regional level and have an opportunity to compete at state and national levels for up to a $20,000 scholarship awarded to the national winner.

Fitzgerald is an honor student at SHS and Commander of the ROTC Battalion.

Her oratory addressed freedoms for all Americans as provided by the Bill of Rights.

Her participation is sponsored by Smithfield American Legion Post 49.
