If it’s October, it must be time to be reminded about cancer — breast cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, you name it. Not exactly something any of us like to think about at any time of the year, but such disease knows no season.

Becoming aware, educating oneself and being pro-active in treatment and follow-up are steps that any one can take to prevent or minimize and defeat cancer’s multi-tangled effects in our lives.

You’ll also note on today’s front page the story of the support group that’s formed over at Franklin Baptist Church. One woman’s personal ordeal inspired her after successful treatment to create an intimate gathering for anyone who’s endured the disease.

We can’t promise that being aggressive in seeking treatment and support will guarantee a triumph over cancer, but we’re sure that it’s better to fight with others by your side than fight alone.
