ISLE OF WIGHT

As part of the observance of Healing Day 2019, a bell ringing ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the Isle of Wight County Court House bell tower, 17140 Monument Circle. This is part of the American Evolution campaign: Virginia to America: 1619-2019.

Jennifer England, director of the Isle of Wight County Museum, will give both opening and closing remarks. Curator Tracey Neikirk will speak about the historical significance of the occasion.

Albert Burckard, vice president of the Isle of Wight County Historical Society, will read a proclamation, after which the bells will be rung.

Rudolph Jefferson of Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors will speak about settlement and expansion that took place from 1619-1719.

“1719-1819: A New Nation is Born,” is the theme of Lanny Hinson’s comments. He is with historic Smithfield and the 1750 Courthouse.

“1819-1919: Contention and Healing,” will be the focus of remarks by Andrew Barker of  Southern & Central Isle of Wight County Citizens’ Group. He will be followed by Lisa Meunier of the Isle of Wight Citizens’ Association. Her subject will be “1919-2019: Growth and Development.”

Before the closing, William M. McCarty, the supervisors’ chairman will call for a blessing of peace and moment of silence.
