The Isle of Wight County Museum, located at 103 Main St., downtown Smithfield, will host a 117th birthday party for the “world’s oldest ham” on Friday, July 12 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Children are encouraged to put on their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll to the museum. Museum staff will read a bedtime story or two. Afterward, the children will head home but their stuffed animal friends will stay the night. Parents may pick up their children’s stuffed animals the morning of the world’s oldest ham’s birthday.

This event is free, but reservations are necessary. To make reservations or for more information, call 356-1223 or email jengland@smithfieldva.gov.

The ham’s birthday party will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 13. Representatives from the Blackwater Regional Library will be on-site to help celebrate.
