The Gamma Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International is pleased to recognize Darren Upton as the recipient of its 2019 Daphne Vaughan Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Darren is graduate of Smithfield High School and is the son of Lee Morgan and Greg Upton Jr. of Moonlight Road, Smithfield. He was accepted with enthusiasm to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and will begin his freshman year this fall to physics. Darren was deemed highly eligible by the scholarship committee to receive this award as he met all of the established criteria, including the pursuit of a degree in education.

The Gamma Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is a society of local key women educators who join other DKG sisters at the state, regional, national and international levels in promoting excellence in education.

The Gamma Epsilon scholarship is named for Daphne Vaughan and is made possible through donations of her daughter, Linda Brittle, memorial donations by other members, and a silent auction fundraiser held by the chapter.

Vaughan taught elementary school for over 40 years in the Windsor area of Isle of Wight County. She held many offices in the Gamma Epsilon chapter, including president, and was well-known throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia for her many contributions to Delta Kappa Gamma.
