WINDSOR

Having won 4-1 on the afternoon of May 24 at their home field against Washington and Lee, the Lady Dukes of Windsor High School went to the semi-finals in the region this past Tuesday against the Lady Raiders at Rappahannock High School in Warsaw.

Though Windsor had not yet played against Rappahannock, the Dukes’ coach Brooke Sutphin said she knew of the Lady Raiders by reputation as a “a good team. They’re second in the region. We are coming in third as the underdog.”

As it turned out, though, Rappahannock proved formidable that day, winning 15-5.

In the game against W&L, Sutphin again had reason to be proud of her girls.

“We started off the game in first inning with Sydney Turner at bat, who had an in-the-park home run. The kid’s fast and it went to the fence.

“Our kids really played together. There were a few errors, but that didn’t stop us.”

Sutphin also recognized Maja Angle, who pitched “a great game. She allowed only three hits, one run and no walks.”

The coach again stressed the team members’ play: “They really worked together.”

On May 16, the Lady Dukes had won 4-3 in the quarter finals against Park View High’s Lady Dragons.

On May 9, Windsor was also successful against the Lady indians of Southampton High School, 7-0.
