On Monday, at its Special Called Meeting, the School Board of Isle of Wight County approved a change to the current school calendar. Thursday, June 13, will now be the last day of school for students.

The original date for the end of the year had been Friday, June 14. All schools will dismiss three hours early on Wednesday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13.

“The division has time built into its calendar to accommodate unexpected closings and delays,” explained Lynn Briggs, the division’s director of community and media relations. “With fewer incidences occurring this year, the board made the decision to modify the calendar for June.”

The last day for teachers and 10-month employees has also been adjusted, with their final day slated for Friday, June 14. The original end-of-year date was Monday, June 17.

“Our teachers and 10-month employees always go above and beyond for the students and families of Isle of Wight County,” said Chairman Vicky Hulick. “We hope they will enjoy being able to begin their summer vacation a little earlier than expected.”
