IW School Board: The Isle of Wight County School Board will have a 2019-2020 budget work session at 9 a.m. at the School Board Office, 820 W. Main St., Smithfield.

 

Friday, March 8

Bethlehem Ruritan Jam: Garland Abbott and The Country Ravens Band will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the clubhouse, 140 Manning Road, Suffolk. There is no admission charge. Donations to the band go in the tip jar, so please give generously. Soft drinks, BBQ, hot dogs, snacks and desserts will be available for purchase. Saturday, March 9

Old-Fashioned Country Breakfast: This will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. by the Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545, 223 Washington St., across from the library and YMCA. The menu features scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, corn bread, fried salt spot and mixed fruit. Coffee and juice are included with a $7 donation. Omelet to order is an additional $2. Children age 6-12 are $4 and children under 6 eat free. All proceeds go to support the many activities and programs of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 in Smithfield.

BBQ Pork Chop Dinner: The Windsor Ruritan Club is sponsoring this event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in its clubhouse on Community Drive. The donation cost is $10 per person, and meals can be eaten there or taken out. For tickets and contact information, call R.A. Howell at 647-5384.

Isle of Wight Citizens’ Association: The meeting begins at 7 p.m in the community room of Sentara St. Luke’s, 20209 Sentara Way, Carrollton. Del. Flea market: The Woman’s Club of Smithfield Inc. is having its annual Giant Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Smithfield Center, 220 N. Church St., Smithfield. For more information, email smithfieldwomansclub1@gmail.com.

Live music: The community is invited to join Sgt. (USMC) Jayton D. Patterson VFW Post 4411 at 3385 Beaver Dam Road, Franklin, for a free live music event from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the smoke-free Charles Butler Hall. The New City Sound band will entertain with a blend of country, light rock and oldies. The band will be performing for tips, so please give generously. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There will be food available for purchase.

Boots & Bling: The Paul D. Camp Community College Foundation will hold its spring fundraiser, Boots & Bling in the Regional Workforce Development Center, 100 N. College Dr., Franklin. Casual country attire is requested for the auction, dinner and dance. Open bar and silent auction begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person. Friday, April 5

Scholarship deadline: Applications for the Delta Kappa Gamma-Gamma Epsilon Vaughan Scholarship are due April 5. Graduating seniors who attend school or live in Isle of Wight County, and who intend to pursue a career in education, are eligible to apply for this $1,000 scholarship.
