Isle of Wight County Schools is proposing an operating budget of $66.9 million for the 2019-2020 school year, of which approximately $28.7 million would come from county taxpayer dollars. The proposed local contribution amounts to a roughly $2.4 million increase over what the county’s Board of Supervisors had allocated to the school division at the beginning of the current school year.

In addition to the proposed local contribution increase, the budget also includes an anticipated $1.6 million increase in funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia, owing to the division’s projected average daily membership rising from 5,356.4 to 5,420.45 (approximately 64 students).

A draft budget and breakdown of funding requests by each county school can be found on the Isle of Wight County Schools website at: https://www.iwcs.k12.va.us/apps/pages/budgetplanning. The School Board had a public hearing about the budget on Thursday in the boardroom at the Isle of Wight County Courthouse Complex. This will be reported on at a later date.
