The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is bringing community theater to their Birdsong Theater stage in May with the production of “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown” by The Suffolk Players.

Auditions for the play’s cast will be Feb. 26 and 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Suffolk Center.

The cast consists of Charlie Brown; Sally Brown, Charlie Brown’s little sister; Lucy Van Pelt, a fussbudget with a forceful personality; Linus Van Pelt, Lucy’s little brother; and Schroeder, a true music nerd. Director for the production will be Jeff Johnson.

Persons auditioning should prepare no more than two minutes of a musical theater style song with strong character choices and bring either sheet music or a karaoke-style CD with background music only. An accompanist and CD player will be available; acappella auditions will not be considered. Comfortable clothes and shoes should be worn for the dance portion of the audition. More information about the characters can be found at the Suffolk Center website, suffolkcenter.org.

Persons chosen for the production must be able to commit a significant amount of time for rehearsals, four to five nights a week, beginning the first week of March. The performances will be from Friday through Sunday, May 17-19.

Johnson, a native of Suffolk, had his first theatrical experience as a freshman at Lakeland High School. He has been involved in over 50 productions in many roles, including acting, stage manager, stage crew, producer, and director. He serves as president of the board of directors of Smithfield Little Theatre, a group he has been involved with for 10 years.
