IW School Board reelects chairwoman

At the first regular scheduled Isle of Wight County School Board meeting of the new year, Vicky Hulick was reelected as chairwoman and Jackie Carr was elected vice chairwoman.
The School Board code of ethics, board protocols and board clerk code of conduct were all approved unanimously, as was the motion to appoint Hulick and Carr as the School Board’s Virginia School Boards Association delegate and alternate respectively.
Hulick and Carr were also appointed to the finance subcommittee for 2019. Alvin Wilson, Julia Perkins and Kirstin Cook were appointed to the discipline committee, with Hulick and Carr as alternates.
Hulick and Cook were also appointed to the WHRO board, and Cook was appointed to the SECEP board and Governor’s School for the Arts, with Carr as the alternate. Carr was also appointed to the special education advisory committee, with Perkins as the alternate. Perkins was also appointed to the career and technical education advisory committee with Wilson serving as the alternate.
Per the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Jim Thornton, the School Board also unanimously approved changing the retainer for the School Board attorney to an hourly rate.
