Each year, many electric customers experience “sticker shock” as temperatures fluctuate seasonally. As a result, many Community Electric Cooperative members see electric bills seasonally spike. The Levelized Billing option helps to guard against these unexpectedly high bills.

“We are confident that many of our members will like this new offering.  Although the amount will still change each month, the change will not be drastic,” said Brenda Mansfield, CEC Manager of Member Services.

Levelized Billing offers the following:

  • Calculates an average cost based on a 12-month moving average of electric usage.
  • Levelized Billing participants do not experience a yearly “true-up” — the average simply re-calculates each month.
  • It smoothes out most of the fluctuation in the amount a member pays and is available to CEC members with previous usage history and good payment history.

The program works best if payments equal the amount billed and the account is kept current with no past due charges. For that reason, Levelized Billing fits nicely with CEC’s Bank Draft E-Z payment option.

“We are excited to bring this new payment option to our members and look forward to providing a smoother billing option for families and members interested in such an arrangement,” said Steve Harmon, CEC President and CEO. “Implementing this program symbolizes our overriding commitment to provide the best service possible to our membership,”
