ISLE OF WIGHT

Isle of Wight County’s Board of Supervisors on Nov. 15 voted unanimously to appoint Robert W. “Bobby” Jones Jr. as the new county attorney. Jones had already been serving as interim county attorney since the resignation of his predecessor, Mark Popovich.

Prior to his appointment, Jones practiced law with the firm Jones and Jones P.C. in Smithfield since 1991.

“After 27 years of assisting the citizens of Isle of Wight through my practice with Jones and Jones P.C., I am very excited about the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity,” Jones said. “I appreciate the Board of Supervisors’ confidence in my ability to handle the legal affairs of this wonderful county. Additionally, I want to thank both the County and Jones and Jones staff for all their support and encouragement.”

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with a minor in mathematics from James Madison University in 1986, and a Juris Doctor degree from The College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1989.

Jones is a member of the Isle of Wight County Bar Association, the National College of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Virginia College of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He served as a member of the Virginia State Bar’s District Legal Ethics Committee.
