Old-Fashioned County Breakfast: The Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 will host the meal from 7 to 10 a.m. in the post at 223 Washington St., across from the library and YMCA. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, corn bread, fried salt spot and mixed fruit will be featured. Coffee and juice are included with a $7 donation. An omelet to order is an additional $2. Children age 6-12 are $4 and children under 6 eat free. All proceeds go to support the many activities and programs of the post.

Amateur radio course: The Western Tidewater Radio Association is sponsoring a “Get Your Amateur Radio License” course today and Oct. 20 at 8 a.m. The class will be in the conference room of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Station, 80 E. Windsor Blvd. The course and the material are free, courtesy of the Fred Weaver Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Twilight Cemetery Tours: St. Luke’s has been the site of burials since the 1600s. Enjoy the stories of local saints and sinners on a 30-minute, family-friendly or adults-only, guided tour around our ancient cemetery. Tickets for the family-friendly Twilight Cemetery Tours on Oct. 12 and 13 are $10 per person and include complimentary light refreshments. Isle of Wight County Historical Society: The group will meet 2 p.m. in the Isle of Wight Ruritan Club,, 17011 Courthouse Highway, for a presentation by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. Guest speaker will be Marc C. Wagner, senior architectural historian with the VDHR Eastern Region Preservation Office. He will present information on historic registers, surveys, rehabilitation tax credits, historic easements and other programs available to assist local preservation efforts. Tickets for the adults-only Twilight Cemetery Tours on Oct.19 are $20 per adult, which includes a hard cider tasting featuring Sly Clyde Ciderworks and a complimentary tasting glass with logo, followed by a 30-minute guided tour of the ancient cemetery. The first hour-long tasting and tour experience begins at 6 p.m. and the last begins at 9 p.m. Must be 21 years old, with valid photo ID, in order to gain admittance to this event. Walking Tour of Nike Park: At 2 p.m., visit one of the Cold War’s few surviving Army Air-Defense Posts. Local historian Albert Burckard hosts a short presentation and a walking tour of this site which contains the original barracks, mess hall, administration and recreation building, officer/non-commissioned officer family housing, fueling area and underground missile magazines. John Bullard has gained international attention for his work in developing and transcribing classical repertoire for the five string banjo. Windsor Town Center grand opening: The Town of Windsor will celebrate the grand opening of its new Windsor Town Center, adjacent to Georgie D. Tyler Middle School. This is a postponement from Oct. 13. A time for the event has not yet been announced.

Christmas Craft Fair: The Woman’s Club of Windsor will host this annual event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new Windsor Town Center, 23361 Courthouse Highway. A bake sale, raffle, homemade chicken salad and pimento cheese will be offered. Numerous vendors such as LuLa Roe, Pampered Chef, Scentsy and Tupperware will be present. This will the first event in the facility, which will also be dedicated that day.

First Saturdays Artisan Market: Local artisans with unique specialties in stained glass creations, forged metal art, handmade brooms, handcrafted and repurposed furniture, silver jewelry, wearable art, herbal soaps, local writers and books, oil paintings, handcrafted pens, knit and crochet, quilts, folk art, pottery, carved and turned wood, handcrafted knives, Native American crafts, locally grown produce, craft demonstrations and more. The Nottoway Tribe of Virginia History Interpretive Exhibit is also available for view. This takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gallery 1606, 18001 Southampton Parkway, corner of Highway 58 and Main Street. Reservations are required for free vendor space. Free admission.
