Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

COURTLAND

Music, music, music.

That’s what it’s all about where the Franklin-Southampton Concert Association is concerned. This season will certainly be no different, and to forego it would mean missing out on several evenings of quality entertainment at an affordable cost.

Nancy Rowe, the association president, is urging past members to renew if they have not done already. No less important, though, is bringing new ears to the venue, which remains the auditorium at Southampton High School in Courtland.

Tickets at the door are $30 per adult; $10 for student. But regular membership for each adult is only $50. Divide that up and the cost is only $10 for each of the five shows planned, and that’s not even including the bonus of the Virginia Symphony’s annual return. Western Tidewater enjoys orchestra’s professional and lively sound thanks to the generosity of the Camp Foundation. Oh, for students the cost is still $10.

Should you choose to be a sponsor or donate at a higher level, that will also help to defray costs.

As for the shows themselves, the series is launched on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m., by four men appropriately calling themselves Cadence. They’ll perform using just their voices, but can sound more than just four men … oh, and with some audience participation, of course.

  • Vocal Trash will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The ensemble is described as “urban-themed with a Broadway-style production.” All the way, the members use recycled materials — tool boxes and milk urns, for example. This show is part of an educational outreach and so a separate performance has been arranged for students at the high school.
  • Put an American country flavor into your holidays with The Texas Tenors. The trio will sing both seasonal favorites as well as other popular music on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Letters from Home is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. This show features patriotic music to honor veterans, active military and their families. This show began in 2010 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Pat Dearth, father of the program’s host, had suggested the idea to her. She wrote, directed and choreographed the production.
  • The Virginia Symphony’s visit is on Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. While there’s no itinerary yet announced, past attendees can testify to the satisfying performance the musicians and conductor provide.
  • To conclude the season, Four By Four will present at tribute to the music of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees and Motown. That show will be on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.
