Del. Emily Brewer (R-64) has announced that she will be hosting two Mobile Veteran Resource Centers in September. Veterans will be able to connect with representatives from the Department of Veteran Services about their individual cases.

The Department of Motor Vehicles will have a mobile unit on site to assist veterans with DMV services, including adding the new “veteran indicator” to their driver’s licenses and free health screenings will be provided by local medical students.
“The 64th District has one of the largest veteran populations in the Commonwealth,” Brewer said. “This is an opportunity for us to help them by connecting them to the services they need, without the hassle. I’ve spoke with numerous local veterans who often have to drive 40 miles or more for assistance with issues relating to veteran resources and services. My office created this mobile center to help our veterans interact with as many local, state and federal resources as possible.”
The first event will be in the Community Room in the Prince George County Human Services Building, 6450 Administration Drive, Prince George, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17. The second event will be held in the Smithfield Center, 220 N. Church St., Smithfield, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Brewer worked with the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, the Commissioner of the DMV, and a number of local organizations to put this event together. Assisting to provide healthcare resources and education will be medical students from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Prince George location and Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Smithfield location. They will provide information on healthcare resources, blood pressure, body mass index and smoking cessation counseling.
“We are incredibly excited to have all of these departments and organizations come together on behalf of the veterans. There is no excuse for partisanship or political games when it comes to moving our community forward. My top priority will always be working hard for the citizens of the 64th District,” she added.
Brewer was first elected to represent the 64th District in the House of Delegates in November and is serving her first term. The 64th District includes parts of the counties of Isle of Wight, Prince George, Surry, Sussex and Southampton, and parts of the cities of Suffolk and Franklin.
