Music room, coding area added

CARRSVILLE

During Carrsville Elementary’s open house on Aug. 30, parents and students got a first look at renovations to the school’s library and media center.

The renovations include the addition of a music room, where all students will receive 20 minutes of violin instruction every day, and opening up the remainder of the library to allow for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) classes, which will include coding and robotics.

New furniture was also purchased to better facilitate collaboration between students.

“By opening up some of the office space, it’s about turning the space back over to our kids,” said Principal Clint Walters.

The music room comes equipped with quarter-size, half-size and three-quarter-size violins for students to use, and a tiered floor that will act as a stage for small-scale performances. Larger performances, Walters said, will be held in the school’s cafeteria.

The school also hired a violin instructor over the summer, Sebastian Sebastian, formerly from Georgia.
