John Brayshaw was recognized by American Legion Post 49 with a certificate of appreciation for his efforts to obtain funding for the America Legion Boys State. Brayshaw conducted a campaign to make Boys State a truly community supported opportunity for future leaders. He collected over $3,000 to help fund the attendance of nine young men from three area high schools.

Brayshaw approached 11 community organizations, which each donated funds, to support the cost for these men to attend the Virginia Boys State at Radford University on June 17-23.

The American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for rising high school seniors. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of virtual local, county and state governments.
