Representatives picked for Boys, Girls State

SMITHFIELD

The American Legion Post 49 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 49 are very proud to announce the 2018 delegates selected to attended 2018 Virginia Boys State and Virginia Girls State June 17-23. Six young men and 11 young ladies selected from Isle of Wight Academy, Smithfield and Windsor High Schools.

The boys are: Xavier Ricks and Charles Nash, both of Windsor High School; Glen Reid Petty and Spencer Buehlman; Darren Upton and Josh Savage, both of Isle of Wight Academy

The girls are: Claire Berbermeyer (Home-school;) Rachel Brock, Cierra White, both of Windsor High School; Amya Fields, Payton Hancock, Emma Harris, Emily Tenney, all of Smithfield High School; Bryn Geiger, Caitlyn Kinsey, Olivia Newman and Natalie Summerlin, all of Isle of Wight Academy.

This program is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.

These rising high school seniors learned to develop civic leadership and pride in American citizenship The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
