The Virginia Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Del. Emily Brewer (R-64) as its choice for freshman legislator of the year during its annual dinner.

During election years, the Chamber recognizes a freshman legislator who has shown exceptional support for the priorities of the Virginia business community. According to Samantha Quig Moore, the Chamber’s director of communications and program manager, Brewer was chosen for this award based on her demonstration of pro-business ideals and collaboration with the business community to champion pro-business policies, as well as for her support of the principles and initiatives outlined in the Chamber’s long-term economic development plan, Blueprint Virginia 2025.

The Chamber also recognized Sen. Siobhan Dunnavant (R-12) as the 2018 Senate Legislator of the Year, and Del. C. Todd Gilbert (R-15) as the 2018 House Legislator of the Year.

Several legislators also received Free Enterprise Awards in the following categories: 16 for business climate, 18 for workforce and education, five for energy, four for health care, two for military and veterans affairs, one for advanced manufacturing and nine for transportation.

“We are pleased to recognize these legislators for their work to make Virginia the best state for business,” said Barry DuVal, president and CEO of the Chamber. “ The recommendations in Blueprint Virginia 2025 outline the business community’s plan to put us on track for long-term economic growth. The support of public policy leaders is key to ensuring Virginia continues to grow and prosper, and we are thankful for the leadership of these legislators.”
