Two Lady Dukes pitchers combine to no-hit Surry

The Lady Dukes defeated Surry on Thursday afternoon 18-0 behind the excellent pitching of Senior E.J. Bankson and Junior Edythe Carr.

Bankson and Carr combined for five innings of no-hit softball, walking two and striking out 11 Lady Cougars.

Edythe Carr led the Lady Dukes offense with two hits and four RBIs. The Lady Dukes put the game away in the second inning, scoring eight runs.

Senior Sydney Carter starting the inning with an in-the-park home run to right field. The Lady Dukes were able to load the bases and draw two walks to add their total. Junior Olivia Holmes picked up 2 RBIs on a double and scored a run. Sydney Carter also scored on a wild pitch in the inning.

The Lady Dukes collected 11 hits on the day and every player each base safely. Sydney Carter led the way for the Lady Dukes with three hits, followed by Edythe Carr’s two hits. Alyssa Funai, E.J. Bankson, Kayce Gray, Cameron Pagan, Austin Gore, Makayla Burks, Torri Queen and Haley Delgado all each collected hits.

With the win, the Lady Dukes improve to 11-3-1 on the season.

The Lady Dukes traveled to defending state champions Mathews on Friday, and Tri-Rivers District rival Park View on Monday.
