Dine with RocketBike founders

The chamber will present its first “Eats for 8” Young Professionals event on Tuesday, May 29, in Wharf Hill Brewing Company, 25 Main St., Smithfield. This “Eats for 8” is sponsored by Farmers Bank.

This event is for professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 and offers the opportunity for eight attendees to meet and dine with distinguished individuals in our regional business community.

Max and Casey Greenhood will join us for our first “Eats for 8.” They own RocketBike Digital Agency. Hear how they got their start and quickly grew their company into a full-service agency specializing in design, development and online advertising. RocketBike has a full-time staff of seven and a diverse client base across the U.S. and Europe.

 

Business After Hours

The Isle of Wight Arts League will host a Business After Hours reception at the Arts Center @ 319 in Smithfield. This will be on Tuesday, April 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The reception will also be a celebration of arts education in Isle of WightCounty, with county arts teachers recognized for contributing the richness of visual and performing arts to the lives of our youth.

The Arts Center @ 319 exhibits the works of local and regional artists, and hosts working studios for eight resident artists, a gift shop with one-of-a-kind creations by member artists and an arts classroom.

Business workshop: ‘Everyone Communicates, Few Connect’

The chamber will present a workshop on business marketing communication, led by Jeff Byrd of the John Maxwell Team. This will be on Thursday, April 19, from 9 to 11 a.m., in the Luter Family YMCA, 259 James St., Smithfield.

Learn how to identify with people and relate to others in a way that increases your influence with them. To be a successful leader, you need to learn to communicate in a way that connects with others.

Get your business on the Chamber’s street map

Help visitors find your business on the Chamber’s new printed Street Map, featuring downtown Smithfield and complete street maps of Smithfield, Windsor and Isle of Wight County. The map will reach thousands of visitors and residents to our area. Advertisers will be shown on the map, as well as in their display ad.

The street map will be produced locally by the chamber of commerce and distributed beginning this fall to visitors at the Chamber’s Information Center and the Tourism Welcome Center, The map will also be accessible online for viewing or download at the Chamber’s high-traffic website (www.theisle.org.)

 

Historic Garden Week guidebooks available

Historic Garden Week guidebooks are now available at the chamber of commerce offices, 100 Main St., Smithfield. Come by now and get your copy for the events taking place April 21-28. Quantities are limited.

Prospective & Small Business Consultations

The Isle of Wight-Smithfield-Windsor Chamber of Commerce is accepting reservations for prospective and small business owners to meet with a consultant from the Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads. Other dates for the year (all on Thursday:) April 19; May 17; June 21; July 19; Aug. 23; Sept. 20; Oct. 18; Nov. 15; and Dec. 20.

 

Scholarship Applications Now Available

Applications are now available for the 2018 Isle of Wight Community Foundation Scholarships.

The foundation last year awarded five $1,000 scholarships to outstanding students in Isle of Wight County.

Deadline for applications is Friday, April 20.
