Monday, April 2

Spring Break MVP Camp: Registration is from noon to 2 p.m., and the camp takes place 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 3 through Thursday, April 5, in the Smithfield High School gymnasium. Fee is $60 per person. Payments needed in cash or money order. This is for students in ages 6-13. Campers will get T-shirts and awards on the final day. Spring Teen Fling: Call all teens. Spring Teen Fling will from Friday, April 6 through Sunday, April 8 at the Airfield 4-H Center, 15189 Airfield Road, Wakefield. Activities include campfire, canoeing, dance, movies, sports and games. For more information, visit www.airfield4hcenter.com.

 

Saturday, April 7

Golf tournament: The Seventh Annual Child Abuse Prevention Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Joyner Gray Yale Ruritan Club and Southampton Social Services, will be at Cypress Cove Country Club, 20333 Country Club Road, Franklin. Registration deadline is Wednesday, April 4. The rain date is Saturday, April 14. The cost is $75 per person ($300 for foursomes; $50 per high school student that plays,) which includes carts, green fees, range balls, prizes and a barbecue dinner by Jerry’s Roadside Grill & Catering. Hole sponsorships are $100 each. Registration and purchase of mulligans begin at noon and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Proceeds go back to the county community via programs that support the prevention of child abuse. Bethlehem Jam: The Route 17 Band perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Bethlehem Ruritan Club House, 140 Manning Rd. Suffolk. No admission charge, but donations to the tip jar go to the band so please give generously. Soft drinks, BBQ, hot dogs, snacks and desserts will be available for purchase. Saturday, April 14

Down Home Day: This year’s event at the Southampton Heritage Village/Agriculture & Forestry Museum in Courtland has been expanded an hour to give people more time to see the demonstrations and exhibits, as well as enjoying food and fellowship. Jimmy Ricks and his Shiloh Grass bluegrass band will perform. The gristmill will be running, providing fresh cornmeal. Bill Vick will have a display of hand shellers for corn. The model trains will also be running, including one that children can operate. For more information, call 654-6785.

Saturday, April 21

Say ‘Yes’ to the Dress: This is a Relay For Life fundraiser by Team WES Soaring for the Cure. The event starts at 9 a.m. in Westside Elementary School, 800 W. Main St., Smithfield. Over 100 gowns and dresses appropriate for proms, weddings, social events will be available and each costs $20. Accessories and shoes also available. Cash or checks accepted.

Wakefield Ruritan Club Bash/BBQ and Shad Homecoming: Join us from 3 to 8 p.m. for fun, food and entertainment. This year’s event will host various children’s activities, display with the history of the Wakefield Ruritans and Shad Planking, cornhole tournament, a live band, BBQ and Shad, raffle with with four prizes and a beer truck.
