Old-Fashioned Country Breakfast: The Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 invite the community for the meal in the post at 223 Washington St., across from the library and YMCA. Breakfast is served from 7 to 10 a.m. with a menu of: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, corn bread, fried salt spot and mixed fruit. Coffee and juice are included with a $7 donation. Omelet to order is an additional $2. Children ages 6 to 12, $4 and children under 6 eat free. All proceeds go to support the many activities and programs of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 in Smithfield.

Fort Huger Walking Tour: This is a special free program presented by the Isle of Wight County Museum, and begins at 10 a.m. Meet at the fort: 15080 Talcott Terrace in the county.

The Paul D. Camp Community CollegeFoundation Board will hold its third annual Building for the Future Gala. The event gets underway at 5:30 p.m., in the college’s Regional Workforce Development Center. Proceeds will be used for the following to support upgrades and expansions that will benefit students. Share Your Stories: March is National Peanut Month, and to celebrate, we ask that you share your peanut stories with us. The museum is writing a book about Isle of Wight County’s agricultural history, and we need your help documenting peanuts…as well as pork, cotton, wheat, soybeans, corn, potatoes and more. Share your photos, documents, memories and drawings and more so that Isle of Wight County’s agricultural story will be preserved for future generations. Food bank collections: The Women’s committee of the Isle of Wight Farm Bureau will collect non-perishable food items for our local food banks until Monday, March 26. Please bring your items to a Farm Bureau office at 79 East Windsor Blvd., Windsor, or 225C Battery Park Road, Smithfield.

Vietnam-era vets honored: American Legion Post 49 of Smithfield Virginia and its auxiliary is inviting all Vietnam-era veterans (those who served anywhere in any service from 1964-1975) to a Welcome Home Luncheon in recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Day. All eligible veterans are invited to the Post at 818 S. Church St., Smithfield for a 2 p.m. luncheon, an opportunity for comradeship and a special presentation. Gus Wulfberg, a post member, published author and Navy Veteran with Vietnam in-country service, will be the master of ceremony and guest speaker. Golf tournament: The Seventh Annual Child Abuse Prevention Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Joyner Gray Yale Ruritan Club and Southampton Social Services, will be at Cypress Cove Country Club, 20333 Country Club Road, Franklin. Registration deadline is Wednesday, April 4. The rain date is Saturday, April 14. The cost is $75 per person ($300 for foursomes; $50 per high school student that plays,) which includes carts, green fees, range balls, prizes and a barbecue dinner by Jerry’s Roadside Grill & Catering. Hole sponsorships are $100 each. Registration and purchase of mulligans begin at noon and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Proceeds go back to the county community via programs that support the prevention of child abuse. Down Home Day: This year’s event at the Southampton Heritage Village/Agriculture & Forestry Museum in Courtland has been expanded an hour to give people more time to see the demonstrations and exhibits, as well as enjoying food and fellowship. Jimmy Ricks and his Shiloh Grass bluegrass band will perform. The gristmill will be running, providing fresh cornmeal. Bill Vick will have a display of hand shellers for corn.
