Bring the whole family out to The Mariners’ Museum Park this spring, where you can spot beautiful and rare birds during Birdwatching on the Noland Trail days, for free. Also this season, learn how to reuse your rainwater at home at Rain Barrel Workshops.

Members of the Hampton Roads Bird Club will lead free birdwatching walks the last Sunday of each month February through May. Attendees will have a chance at spotting common robins and bluejays, as well as rare warblers, small birds with bright yellow feathers that pass through the area for just a short time.

“They’re pretty phenomenal creatures,” Hampton Roads Bird Club member, Dave Youker said of birds. “They are able to do so many things, like build nests, fly, feed themselves. Some of these nests are so elaborate, yet they have done that with just their bills and feet.”

Bird club members will point out the animals in the trees, share binoculars with attendees, and identify the birds in field guide books that explain their habitats, environment, and skills.

Those interested in reusing rainwater for gardening, car washing and other tasks can assemble and take home a 55-gallon barrel at the Rain Barrel Workshops this April and May.
