If it’s January, it’s time for politics.

More precisely, it’s time for another session of the Virginia General Assembly, which convened at noon on Wednesday. This year our representatives will be working on Governor Terry McAuliffe’s proposed biennium budget for 2018-2020, and the even-year session will last 60 days, ending on Saturday, March 10.

This year, voters of the 64th District will get to see incoming freshman Delegate Emily Brewer at work for them. We are confident that she will do all she can for her district, and hopeful that she will work on legislation that is beneficial for Western Tidewater.

Naturally, we expect the same of Delegate Roslyn Tyler (D-75), Senator Louise Lucas (D-18) Senator John Cosgrove (R-14) this session.

Rick Morris, who did not seek reelection and is being replaced by Brewer, deserves grateful recognition for his work during his time in office.

We’re also optimistic that the General Assembly will work with incoming Governor Ralph Northam, who will be inaugurated today, Jan. 13. Bipartisanship should be the daily mantra for all who serve in Richmond.
